Whistler has built up a reputation for it's skiing and snowboarding with tons of snow and endless terrain, but many locals (including myself) will tell you that summer is on par with winter, if not better! The days are long and hot with sun until 10pm in the peak of summer giving you almost two full days in one. You're going to need all the time you get get to fit in all the activities you want to do!

Here are my top five summer activities to do with your family this summer:

1.  Go Biking

If Whistler is famous for something in the summers it's definitely biking! Whether you want to take it easy on the valley trail or push your limits in the bike park there is something for everyone.

Lost Lake trails are perfect for beginner-intermediate riders with great progression, short trails and endless loops. You can stop for a snack at the Passivhaus or for a swim at the lake. The trails are always filled with families, bike camps with their instructors and other learners - it is the perfect family atmosphere.

If you're tired of pedalling uphill, spend a day in the bike park where the lifts will take you up. There are all levels of bike trails in the bike park but if you aren't sure you can hire an instructor for the day.

2. Hangout at the lake

Another local-favourite activity is hanging out at the lake. All the lakes are accessible via the valley trail so you can even hop lake-to-lake if you feel like it!

I recommend packing a picnic lunch, a blanket, some towels and some games like a frisbee or soccer ball and spending that day at the park. You can even rent a canoe, kayak or paddle board and enjoy some time on the water.

The kids will love jumping off the dock, swimming and playing in the sand. It's a perfect way to spend a relaxing day with the family.

3. Zip-lining

If your family is full of adrenaline junkies go zip-lining or try the treetop adventure course. You'll get to see some amazing views and learn about different wildlife and vegetation while flying through the treetops of Whistler and Blackcomb.

4. Blackcomb Base Adventure Zone

The Adventure Zone is more geared towards younger kids but there are some activities for the adults and older kids to enjoy too. Activities include bungee trampoline, go karts, mini golf, glitter tattoos, balloon slide and bouncy castle, Westcoaster Slide and more.

5. Peak to Peak Gondola and Mountain Top Hikes

The Peak to Peak is a must-see in Whistler. Once you get to the top of Whistler Gondola you can enjoy a mountaintop BBQ, do an alpine hike if your family is up to it or simply jump on the Peak to Peak and enjoy the breath-taking views as you ride over the valley from one peak to the other.

With all the different hikes you can do, this option can be as intense or relaxing as you want it to be.

There are so many more summer activities in Whistler but these are the ones the entire family can do together. Don't forget to stop by Cows Ice Cream because no summer day is complete without an ice cream cone!!
