Although Whistler is home to some of the most gnarly mountain bike trails out there, it's also home to some of the most fun and progressive beginner terrain.

The Lost Lake Trail network is hands down the best beginner mountain biking area in Whistler for kids and adults!

Their wide single track, smooth green runs allow beginner mountain bike riders in Whistler to build their confidence and learn the trail skills needed to progress in a safe and fun way. The cross country trails are a mix of peddling up and riding down allowing riders to build endurance and practice their downhill skills.

The network of trails spiderweb around Lost Lake never straying too far from the PassivHaus which as food, drinks and a bike rental shop.

Fun For Everyone

Even the most experienced riders can enjoy the Lost Lake Trails exploring the blue runs with rock slabs, bridges and small drops while the beginner family members stick to the green runs.

Non-riders or those who prefer to stay off of the single track mountain bike trails can ride or walk on the gravel, double track pathway that wraps around the lake or have a relaxing picnic on the grassy lakefront area.

In The Bike Park

Easy Does It is the best beginner mountain bike trail for kids in the Whistler bike park, although true beginners are better off practicing and honing their skills in Lost Lake before heading to the bike park (plus the bonus of not having the buy a lift ticket!).

Take A Lesson!

The best thing you can do (especially as a beginner mountain biker in Whistler) is take a lesson from a professional so you can build good habits from the beginning.

We are a family of 4 from NZ wanting a MTB experience. We are fairly confident riders but have not done much downhilling. The kids are aged 15 and 9 and we are in our early 50’s.
We will likely be in Whistler for a few days.
I was looking at maybe doing blue trails and maybe a lesson 1st? What would you advise/ suggest? Are trip will be in July sometime.

Hi Alana, sorry for the slow reply. Sounds awesome, July is a great time to come for mountain biking!

I would definitely advise a lesson especially so you can get to know the best trails without wasting time if you are only coming for a few days 🙂

If you’re looking to ride lift assisted runs you would be looking at riding in the bike park and you would need to book a lesson through Whistler Blackcomb as they are the ones that offer lessons and guiding in the bike park.

If you’re looking to explore outside of the bike park (not lift assisted but better quality trails because they get less traffic – also a bonus that you don’t have to wait in lines and the trails aren’t busy) I would recommend Whistler Singletrack, they have great instructors and know the trails of Whistler inside out.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

        Jen
